Scene 3 again. The two women. Fronting it out. Today was better than Saturday. More focus on meaning and inter-relationships of the pair. Ana explained how she felt as though she was just getting to grips with the MC of the opening scene, when suddenly there’s an adjustment to MC 4 years later. With all the change this implies. All of which will be worked on more. After all this is only the second session on this scene.
V has some kind of allergic reaction on her hand, almost exactly the same as my father had. The skin is flaky, swollen and liquid. She claims its because she’s a loca, although this belies a calm exterior. That strange process, which also goes with rehearsal, of seeing someone daily, working intensely, as though you’ve worked together all your lives, and yet you scarcely know one another at all. Which is not the same with A, who I have known nearly if not quite half my life. Even the few nights out F and I had last year initiated a bond of some kind. Had forgotten about this whole, slightly tragic aspect of theatre, (which the play could be said to refer to).

Also had a meeting with Karina and Francisco, who’s designing publicity. I think I’ve basically stolen a Plesterian concept, something which does not appear to have been done here, the fight bill. It works for the play and ties in with ideas from way back. Francisco liked the idea. We walked up to the theatre together after the meeting (returning to the Anglo for the first time in so long, another side of the city of ghosts). He studied cinema at the university, so we talked Kustarica and Kieslowski and Spielberg, briefly.

Of a sudden I’ve become the target for mosquitoes, who wouldn’t let me sleep until 3 last night and 6.30 the night before. They arrived by transfer, it would appear. On Saturday night, when I saw Helena, she was suffering from them, and I observed that I had been immune so far from their attacks. No sooner did I get back to my room, they pounced. Have been itching ever since.
